Be yourself!

Don't pretend to be who you are not just to like the others. That is a huge mistake. Sooner or later you will be frustrated, so be authentic and you will be happier.

Governments give and take

Here's a very interesting statement found in one of the renowned Hong Kong protests (originally quoted by Thomas Jefferson):

"A government big enough to give its people everything they want is also a government big enough to take away from its people everything they have."

This reflection gives food for thought especially during these difficult corona times we are living all over the world.

Are the citizen rights being respected?
Do we know the truth behind the scenes?
What or who caused this pandemic? Was the virus transmitted from animals or is this rather a geopolitical game played by the most powerful nations in the world?
Are the media revealing the truth or rather hiding information from us?
Are the published figures reliable?

Many open questions and surely many theories trying to find a explanation to all of this chaos. What is your opinion? I'd love to hear it, drop a message and let's open a debate.

You're the Most Important One!

Hello guys! Here's a reflection I found on Twitter (@JetLi) which I would like to share with you:

"You are killing yourself for a job that would replace you within a week if you dropped dead. Take care of yourself"

The truth is, many employees are working their ass off to maintain their jobs since this is their only way for them to make ends meet. But it's sadly true that neither you nor I are essential and could be quickly replaced given the case. I have personally experienced this, since I unexpectedly had to fly home in February for some severe reason (and letting the company know about it with very short notice) and still my work was quickly re-distributed in the team so that the company would not notice my absence.

Maybe it is time for you to realize that it might be wise to also have a plan B, in case the company decided to make you redundant regardless of the reason or just to have another source of income which allows you to live more relieved. Please take this phrase into consideration because no-one will care about your health more than you, certainly not the company either.

Are you wondering what you can do to generate additional sources of income? If yes, let me know and I'll write posts to this interesting post.

What are your thoughts about this quote above? I'm keen to read your opinion and exchange some thoughts, have a nice day!

Never Quit, Persistence Is The Way

Persistence attracts opportunity, with those three words, I begin this article. Sure, when you are exasperated, early quitting always sounds good, especially when it all gets "bloody" or hard. When you are tired, some of the greatest successes come after the next wind. I will not say "second wind", because it sometimes takes multiple streams of persistence to succeed, and not any streams of persistence, and just one try without trying again to genuinely fail.
The greatest quitter in the world is never known, because all quitters quit before they succeed or "make it". Rest assured, though, the greatest successes in the world are the ultimate seeming "failures in the beginning". From Gautama Buddha who spent seventy years "going crazy" trying to figure it all out from suffering in the world itself to the "biggest why things in the world" under the Bodhi Tree, to Jesus Christ who "ended" his ministry with assassination by Crucifixion, only to come back in an even better form ultimately, and have one of the greatest mass ministries on Earth bigger than anything else going on Earth. So, what is the greatest persistence in the world? It is one of us if we do not genuinely quit too early.
The only thing that separated Alexander Graham Bell and the rest of the inventors of the telephone, was this, persistence and a simple turn of a screw connecting a wire, also an understanding of vibration and consistency that matched nothing else going. Alexander Graham Bell understood vibration and consistency (knowing it would take a constant and not intermittent current to transmit speech over electrical wires), although it seemed simple, that turn of the screw was the difference between intermittent inconsistency and consistently and productively working, and what stemmed from all of this to full fruition?: Oh, just cell phones, every communication medium on the planet including radio and wireless gadgets like that we use every day. Even though Lewis Latimer really invented, drew and patented the light bulb, and not Edison technically, I genuinely give credit where credit is due and warranted, whatever the realistic consequences. This is what separates Christianity from the other religions in a sense when Jesus Christ said the simply logical statement: "Render unto Caesar what is the property of Caesar, and render unto God genuinely what is the property of God." in the New Testament Biblical Books of Matthew and Mark.
My point and synopsis is as follows, then I will end this article: To live in reality whatever the consequences is success. To follow through with a genuine path is success in every way. That is the synopsis. Success is guts, persistence and genuinely good work and little else. That is the point, take what you need from that, and make it work for you. Thank you for reading.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Rules of Success

Today we become inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger and his thoughts about success. He ennumerates 8 rules, which I proceed to comment:

1) Have goals, purpose, and visions.
There's no way you can have success if you don't know where you are going. Define a specific plan and timelines when to fulfill the milestones which will push you towards your goal.

2) Don't listen to the naysayers or doubters.
Many will surely discourage you to keep pushing, mainly because they are aimless or had bad experiences. That does not mean that you have to fail, they might not have tried hard enough or simply lacked experience. Believe in yourself and you'll find your path to success.

3) Work your ass off and advertise
There's the English saying: "There is no such thing as a free lunch". Success and good results don't fall from heaven, so apart from the right mindset you need to work hard so that you deliver good products or services. No pain, no gain. Then let the world know about you, they will not come to you if they don't even know you exist.

4) Don't have a backup plan. We function better if there is no safety net.
Having a Plan B is a way for us to pretend to leave our comfort zone but not doing it actually. If you know there's a way out should you fail to accomplish your purpose, you won't take it seriously and either procrastinate or deprioritize your tasks. You've got to put yourself through pain so that you really do whatever it takes.

5) Never doubt yourself.
Believe in yourself! Your faith must remain alive so that you don't fall apart whenever setbacks turn up.

6) Everyone fails, but losers stay down.
Even winners fail, and you have to because it is part of the process and you'll learn from your mistakes. Just don't be afraid of making mistakes, get up and try again.

7) Being relaxed and giving it everything we have is the best way to perform.
Stress surely does not help us to achieve our goals, so relaxation together with self-confidence and doing our best are the way to go.

8) Help out others and give back to the world.
You become a better version of yourself when you transform into a better person. I believe successful people are doing good because they appreciate what they have and are willing to give back to the universe. The universe will give you back in return.

What's Your Excuse for Not Being Successful in Life?

Excuses! Excuses! When we fail to do something we are expected to do, we almost always have an excuse for it. However, if we analyze it closely, an excuse is a self-destructive alibi for having failed to do something, especially when it involves attaining a goal. Instead of trying to persevere in finding ways to continue achieving a goal, some of us resort to excuses.

Even a handicap cannot be used as an excuse. Many handicapped but determined people have become achievers and champions. Instead of using a handicap as an excuse, let us turn it into an asset. Let us explore this further.

A handicap need not be a reason for failure. On the contrary, a handicap can be a reason for success. People with a handicap always have an offsetting strength that allows them to overcome problems better than others.

A person with a handicap has one obsession - to lead a normal life. Depending on the handicap, a person would prefer to be as independent as possible. So he struggles and finds ways to overcome his impediment. When he is able to achieve his goal, this raises his self-esteem. In turn, he inspires others.

Everybody has handicaps in varying forms and degree. That is why; it requires effort and determination to overcome them. Handicaps can either be physical, financial, or emotional. And they can either be real or imagined.

Whenever we look at a handicap, we almost always look on the negative side only. It's about time we take a look at the positive side of it. The positive side may be the difficult side, but it's the one worth looking into. It's the side that is going to lead us to excel in life.

If you think your handicap is physical, like having a weak body, you can counteract this through proper diet and training exercises. As long as the physical parts of your body are intact and mobile, there's no reason why you cannot make it strong and useful. Why? Even those without a leg (for example) can be made to walk or run normally. With the advancement of science, artificial legs can help a handicap function with great mobility.

It your handicap is financial, then the more reason you have to rise above your present status. And if your financial status limits your educational attainment to improve your life, the school is not the only place to learn. Certainly, there are help centers to get you started even from zero level. Once you are initially warmed up with the basics of an education, the rest is up to you. Make use of libraries. Once you are educationally equipped, use your brain and come up with creative ideas to improve your life.

If you are emotionally disturbed with negative thoughts, it is like you are sitting on a chair with wobbling legs. Try sitting on a chair with sturdy legs; meaning, look at the bright, positive side of life. Put aside negativity and start thinking positively. The only one who can stop you is yourself.

If your handicap is a combination of any of the physical, financial, or emotional type, congratulations. You should strive more to overcome them, because a double layer of perseverance results to more than double the achievement. Where the odds are greater, the prize gets much bigger. After all the efforts you have exerted, the prize of success shall be a well-deserved one.

So what's your excuse for not being successful?

Do you set realistic goals?

Any type of goal setting is often considered a fundamental part of any types of personal development or life coaching or 12-step recovery. The idea is simply to set objectives that you then try to achieve. At some point you evaluate your efforts and results, and make any necessary adjustments that may be due.
The question of realistic goals is really important. The goal must be achievable in some way, and at the same time must not be too easy so that it does not require any effort to stretch on the part of the person trying to achieve it.
When looking at goals that other people are setting, it is quite easy to be reasonably objective about what you think they can and cannot achieve. This is especially true if you know the person well, or you know their situation or environment.
Where it becomes more difficult, is where the individual has real levels of self-doubt about their own capabilities, and find the very notion of goal setting difficult to imagine.
It is not, usually, that the person does not want to achieve things. It is more that they struggle with the notion of how much control they have over their own life. On the whole, people tend to set goals that are not achievable, either because they aim too high, or they sometimes give up too easily.
Setting realistic goals is a very hard thing to do. Failure to meet goals can re-inforce a lot of negative thinking about someone's ability to have control of their life. This can make any type of meeting future goals even more difficult.
One of the ways through this, is to stop setting goals that are very specific. This tends to go against the standard advice about goal setting. People normally say set very clear and specific goals, that can easily be measured. Whilst this is sound advice in one sense it does make the whole issue much more black and white than it needs to be.
What sometimes works much better, is for people to set goals that are really about a process, rather than a specific milestone or event. The nature of process is much easier to grasp, is actually very easy to evaluate and does not tend to be so judgemental.
When talking about being judgemental, it is important to realise that it is normally the person themselves who are quite judgemental about their abilities of performance. This sense of judgement is likely to be about their sense of self or their identity.
The nature of process allows people to move forward from a position of where they are, at their own pace. In some ways this is a good thing, as it does not force people beyond the capabilities. At the same time, one of the benefits of goal setting is to stretch people to do more than they thought they were able to.
Goal setting that revolves around a process can do this by instilling a sense of self belief in the person, that can overcome a sense of negativity or judgement that may be there in the first place. Using a process based goal setting agenda involves a different mindset to normal goal setting.
It is however, just as achievable, and in many ways can be of much more benefit to people who struggle with their sense of self, or low levels of self-worth or self-esteem.

Top 10 Ways to Take the Fear Out of Public Speaking

Many college students fear public speaking more than falling into a pit of snakes, being attacked by an alligator or swimming with sharks. I had a frustrated student stop by my office one morning. He was majoring in engineering and had been pursuing his degree for over 6 years. He shared a story of attempting to take the public speaking course several times and becoming overwhelmed with the fear of giving a speech in front of a student audience. He decided that the course I was teaching was his last chance. After experiencing several failures, he made the decision to give up his engineering career if he did not pass my speech class. I told him that success in my course was possible. I also informed him that you can't eliminate some anxiety that goes with giving a speech. I further explained that there are several ways to manage public speaking anxiety.
There are many ways to manage the fear of presenting a speech. Here's my Top 10 list of suggestions:
1. Try power posing. Prior to your presentation, find a private location and stand with a powerful posture. For example, think of the pose used by Wonder Woman or Superman. The power posing researchers indicate that standing for a few minutes with a powerful posture will leave you more confident when it comes time to speak.
2. Take a few minutes to locate the room where you are speaking, check out the lighting and the technology. Fear of the unknown increases anxiety. I remember attending a convention in a large Detroit hotel. In the evening I visited the room where I was presenting the next day. I also saw other presenters checking out their presentation rooms. I was more comfortable the next day because I was familiar with the room environment and technology.
3. Get some exercise. Medical research demonstrates the value of daily exercise in reducing anxiety. On the day of your presentation, take a brisk walk or do some exercises to help you relax. But don't overdo it. You don't want to appear to your audience like you just finished a marathon.
4. Avoid caffeine. Energy drinks, coffee and too much dark chocolate for some speakers will increase their anxiety. Nervous gestures, voice and problems with your outline can be the result of too much caffeine in you diet.
5. Take a few deep breaths. Taking deep breaths will lower your pulse rate. Taking a few deep breaks before presenting will help you to relax.
6. Keep breathing. Emergency specialist say that many victims of a trauma stop their regular breathing habits. They often instruct the victim to focus on their breathing and move back to a regular breathing pattern. If your speech is a traumatic experience for you, then its important to think about your breathing patterns.
7. Pause for a minute. Professional speakers use this technique. It's okay to pause for a minute or two before beginning your speech. It's a great way to get your mind focused on the speech outline and away from your anxious feelings.
8. Use positive affirmations. Our minds work like a stage. You can't hold positive and negative thoughts on the stage of your mind at the same time. The negative thoughts will push the positive ones off the stage. Think positive thoughts. Imagine your audience giving you a standing ovation at the end of your presentation.
9. View nurturing pictures. Recent research indicates that viewing nurturing, caring, positive pictures will increase your confidence and reduce anxiety. Locate a picture of a family member or friend, or your pet dog or cat. Focus a couple of minutes on the pictures and watch your speech anxiety melt away.
10. Practice, Practice, Practice and then practice some more. Practicing is the best way to manage your anxiety. Professional speakers rehearse their speeches 10-12 times.
Public speaking anxiety is a way of life for many presenters. Learn to channel the anxiety into energy in your presentation. The next time you are feeling speech anxiety, think about the many ways that you can use to manage that anxiety and present a great speech.

10 Benefits of Knowing Your Purpose

"To love what you do and feel that it matters-how could anything be more fun?" ~ Katharine Graham

What is so important about having a purpose in life? Increasingly, people are looking for something more than just "making a living." They're realizing that there seems to be something missing in their lives and they're experiencing an inner sense of dissatisfaction. Many outwardly successful people describe feeling "off-track" in some way or a sense of being incomplete. That missing something is a sense of purpose.
Without purpose, we may drift through life directionless and unfulfilled. According to business psychologist and psychotherapist Douglas La Bier, "The consequences of not finding your purpose include chronic, lingering dissatisfaction; an absence of inner peace and a sense of not being fully in sync with your inner self."

Here are some of the benefits of connecting with and pursuing your purpose:

1. It gives you control over your own direction in life. You stop following the "shoulds" of family and society and set your own course for what you want to do with your life.

2. You're more likely to have a healthier outlook on life and be more resistant to stress.

3. You have more focus in life, making choices based on what's meaningful to you.

4. You have a greater sense of inner peace and satisfaction as you align with what you were "made for."

5. You live more in the flow of life, rather than in struggle. This isn't to say there aren't challenges but when you have a sense of meaning and purpose the challenges don't seem as large and you get through them more quickly and easily. You're better able to handle the ups and downs of life. *

6. You enjoy more satisfying relationships. A 2009 study of over 1,000 adults found that those with a high sense of meaning in their lives spent more time and attention on their loved ones and communities. They were more engaged with their families, neighbors and colleagues.

7. It redefines what success means to you. It's not about climbing the corporate ladder, a particular title or how much money you make. This isn't to say you can't make good money. When you're doing what you love you are actually more aligned to everything you want, including financial abundance. It simply means that the usual markers of success in our society are not as important as the inner satisfaction of how you're spending your time. Success is defined by what brings you joy.

8. You'll love knowing what you're doing is making a contribution to the larger whole. When you're "on purpose" you'll be doing what you love and utilizing your talents in a way that adds more positive energy to the world. Serving more than your own self-interest connects you to your higher self. It opens your heart and summons your spirit.

9. Your overall happiness increases and you have more of a zest for life!

10. Having a sense of purpose can help you live longer! **

If you've connected with your purpose, congratulations! You're already reaping the rewards of "doing what you love and feeling that it matters." Whatever it is that you've found, if it is your passion and has meaning for you, it does matter.

If you're still wondering what your purpose is, I encourage you to explore the possibilities. What do you love to do? What talents and skills do you enjoy using? You may want to enlist the help of a coach to go deeper. The world is waiting for your unique gifts!

You Gotta Be Hungry (by Les Brown)

Connecting with Kiyosaki's post from yesterday where he stated that entrepreneurs stay hungry due to not receiving a paycheck, I present Les Brown's speech about hunger.

You've got to be hungry if you want to do something worthwhile in your life. No matter what the others' opinion might be, someone's opinion of you doesn't have to become your reality. Be prepared for opportunities even if they don't come first, they will. And don't stop running towards your dreams.

Rich vs Poor Mindset (by Robert Kiyosaki)

Today you will learn some profound insights from Rich Dad Poor Dad's worldwide-known author Robert Kiyosaki.
He states getting out of debt, having a job and receiving a paycheck are the wrong way to go, since you work for money and become a slave. Entrepreneurs, on the other hand, like going into debt and know about how taxes work and money works for them instead. By not having a paycheck, they get hungrier.

Do Your Best and Let It Be Enough - Countering Your Perfectionistic Self-Talk

Preparation and focus are key skills to develop and implement when it comes to finding time to do your best. And here's something that may surprise you: Doing your best also involves knowing when to let go. That's because your time and energy are too precious (and too limited) to waste them tying yourself in perfectionistic knots!
As Psychologist Harriet B. Braiker noted, " Striving for excellence motivates you; striving for perfection is demoralizing."
So, how often have you experienced that discouraging frustration? How often have you pursued the ideal of getting something 'just right,' only to keep missing the mark by a little bit? And how often have you watched your day slip away while you adjusted and tweaked and reached for that ideal again and again?
Sound familiar? It's not an unusual experience - especially for energetic, motivated, high achievers. And the good news is, there's another way to go about this! You can keep perfectionism from tying you in knots, taking over your life, and bringing your productivity to a halt.
The way to outsmart your perfectionism is by learning to recognize the 3 Key Perfectionist Messages that can help you recognize the tell-tale signs of perfectionism. Then you can respond to those undermining messages directly and powerfully, winning back your time by making different choices!
Untying perfectionism's knots doesn't just help you find time. It also builds your confidence and expands your sense of what is possible. Talk about life-enhancing changes! So, let's explore those tell-tale messages:
Perfectionist Message #1: 'I'm waiting for the right time to get started.' This raises the question of what exactly is the 'right time'? And how do you recognize it when it arrives? Ask yourself some questions about this, and see what you discover. Do you know the 'right time' has arrived when:
  • You have more free time?
  • You feel inspired?
  • Your friend returns the books she borrowed - the ones you need to read before you can start your project?
  • There are no distractions?
  • There are no other demands on your time?
  • You have enough time?
What these examples all have in common is that, in each, you give yourself the message that something additional is needed before you can begin. This disempowers you and keeps you stuck.
Time-Wise Response: 'The right time is right now.' You untie the perfectionistic knot by letting yourself know that NOW is the time that you have to work with. Whatever task you have to do, schedule the specific start time for yourself and, when the time comes, start in. Don't think about it; just begin. Once you take the first step, the next will follow.
Perfectionist Message #2: 'It is not perfect yet.' If you often say some version of this to yourself, follow-up with these questions:
  • What would perfect look like?
  • Is it attainable?
  • Are you anticipating criticism?
  • If so, from whom?
  • Are your expectations realistic or inflated?
  • Whose eyes are you seeing this through?
Time-Wise Response: 'Strive for excellence rather than perfection.' Being able to really take this in is one of the biggest steps you can take toward untying perfectionistic knots. Striving for excellence becomes such a relief - and so energizing! When you let go of perfectionism you can begin to experience the pleasure of accomplishment. As your self-confidence and sense of satisfaction in your work grow, the illusion of perfection becomes less and less alluring.
Perfectionist Message #3: 'I know I can make it better.' This is a place where endless time can be wasted. How often have you found yourself tweaking something until you couldn't even see it clearly anymore? As William Shakespeare wrote (in King Lear) "Striving to better, oft we mar what's well."
Time-Wise Response: 'I will ask for feedback.' This response powerfully unties perfectionistic knots in 3 important ways:
  1. Others come to your work with fresh eyes, so if there truly is something to be made 'better' they will probably see it.
  2. Letting this go and choosing to delegate it frees up your time so you can move on to your next task.
  3. As you open to others' feedback you are inviting their responses. This diminishes fear of criticism and is a very powerful antidote to perfectionism.
When you think about it, perfectionism is a lot like an internal bully who ties you in knots and saps your initiative, energy, and productivity. When you face that bully and untie those perfectionistic knots, you are freeing yourself and changing your life in a very fundamental and exciting way.
So, celebrate every step as you stop placing impossible demands on yourself and start finding time for more success and satisfaction in your life!

The Power of Hardwork

When you become an expert of your field, there will be high demand for your services, and there are high possibilities that you will be successful once you are profoundly on demand. For example, if you spend much time on honing and practicing your skills, you will definitely become a master of your craft.
Hardwork lead to success. The harder you work, the more fortunate you get on the grounds that success happens when opportunity meets with a significant level of readiness. Opportunity consistently thumps at everyone's entryway, except it regularly discovers the majority of us are ill-equipped. Only prepared individuals can exploit opportunities.
The harder you work in a specific field, the more you become an expert, and the more you become a master, the more you start trusting in your capacity. This conviction makes you sure in light of the fact that you start understanding that no matter what happens you can accomplish anything you set your mind into.
Hardwork causes you to spend bunches of hours perfecting your abilities. Along these lines, it makes you an expert in time management. Likewise, it drives you to learn self-control, which is a basic component for progress. Self-control is the capacity to do the things you should do in any event, when you don't want to do them.
Hardwork takes experimentation and you can experience a series of failures before making progress. Difficult work is consistently the gauge for success since there are no easy routes. Be positive about your skills. Certainty is one of the top characteristics of effective individuals. Some even say that achievement depends more on certainty than ability.
Start your day with effective propensities. Spare your most significant work when you are most productive. An effective routine will be diverse for everybody and can set aside some effort to consummate. Simply make sure to remain consistent in your daily routine. Create an effective everyday practice and work-life balance plan.
Yet, the fact of the matter is that there's just a single thing you can't do without, and that is hardwork. Achievement doesn't occur by some coincidence. It takes strategic actions to achieve.
It doesn't occur incidentally either. There are disappointments during the journey towards success. But, what's important toward the day's end, it's about how hard you've dealt with getting you closer to your objective. In any case, to be eager to contribute your valuable time, vitality and center, you'll have to genuinely see precisely why hardwork matters.
So hardwork, together with the time it takes, is an unquestionable requirement on your voyage to progress. It makes you who you need to transform into so as to carry on with the better life that is anticipating for you.
Furthermore, the harder you take a shot at your dream, the surer you become. The individuals who need confidence likewise need assurance and wind up losing expectation and giving up. Yet, by putting enough vitality on this endeavor, you start having faith in yourself more, you are certain that you'll succeed, and you needn't bother with help from others and nobody can put you down any longer.
Try sincerely and you can accomplish anything. The bottom line is that inspiration is the thing that gets difficult work under way. Motivation is the thing that keeps us gainful disregarding the overwhelming toil and the intense sacrifices.
Hard work is what separates the best from the greats. The most impressive point in a person's life is when he/she has worked his/her heart out to achieve his/her goals in life.

Up Your Game This Valentine's Day

How about if this Valentine's Day you upped your game? What if, instead of--or in addition to-- focusing the intensity of your love on that one special person in your life, you turned the spotlight of your love onto your life! Your whole life, all of it, every aspect of it. If rather than complaining, dissing, blaming or criticizing your life, you embraced it wholeheartedly with all the love, hugs and kisses you lavish on that special someone?
So granted, your work life isn't perfect (whose is?!), but if you look at your job, your career, through the eyes of love, you'll find all manner of things to appreciate about it. Not the least of which is the paycheck it affords you. There are co-workers you do like or who support your efforts in some way. There is a place to go, tasks to achieve, which allow you to use at least some portion of your intellect and creativity.
Your family and/or friends drive you batty at times, but somewhere in the mix there are good times, fun adventures, tender moments. What if you focused on those, letting the memory of them bring a smile to your face, and let friends and family members know how dear they are to you, with words as well as hugs.
Then there's you. Ah, yes, the tough nut to crack. How about loving yourself? You see, as wonderful a gift as social media is to us in allowing us to more rapidly and freely connect, it also brings up an awful lot of the devil known as "comparison." Everyone else seems to be happier, thinner/fatter, taller/shorter, prettier/more handsome, more successful, than you. Everyone else seems to be trending with what's trendable, in the know on all the scoops, and launching into ever more exciting jobs, travel, cars, clothes, mates!
Dang! You can't possibly love yourself and compare yourself to others at the same time. Other people will always, being the different sorts that they are, in one way or another be more of what you aspire to, or less of what you dislike. So what? You are YOU, marvelously uniquely YOU! And that--along with your marvelous and unique life--is worthy of love.
Love. As in caring about and caring for, yourself and your life. Love. As in being grateful for and appreciative of, yourself and your life. Love. As in being tender towards and taking pleasure in, yourself and your life.
Love really is all there is.

The 20-Minute Rule (by Dr. Noelle Nelson)

My resolution for 2020 is actually very simple: The 20 Minute Rule. It means I no longer allow myself to worry over anything for more than 20 minutes. Anything. Not the state of my health, finances, relationships, the world - anything.
Why should this rank as a valid resolution? Well, because too often whatever the worry is can all too easily morph into a perfectly awful, depressing, miserable whole day. I have done that more than once, and it never made the worrisome thing go away. So, yes, for me at least, a valid resolution.
Sounds easy, right? Huh! Try it. Dang. Because it's no fair stopping the worry about, say, the balance in my checking account after 20 minutes, only to start worrying about it again an hour or two later. Certainly not about the same dismal balance. Why 20 minutes? Because it often takes me about 20 minutes to realize I've been obsessively worrying about something--and what does all the worry get you? More worry. It's not the place you want to be. Make 2020 the year that things will be different.
The good news is that worrying is a habit, as anything else we do repetitively, and habits are made, therefore can be broken. Or, more accurately stated - developed, and therefore allowed to devolve into nothingness once again.
That being said, sometimes whatever I'm worrying about requires attention. Attention, yes, not worry. Proactive problem solving is the best alternative to worry.
Think of worry as an attention-getter. Something that alerts you to a situation that requires your attention. Not your fear, anguish, despair or anger - but your attention! Which in turn can lead to effective problem-solving to deal with whatever is causing you to worry.
After all, when you're worrying about the weather, what you're really worrying about is if you can get to work OK, or if your kids took their rain gear, or if the roof will leak. All of those are things about which you can take proactive steps, thus quashing the worry. The weather itself? Nah. That you can't do much about. So don't try. Let worry get your attention focused on what you can do something about, and go for it.
Adopt The 20 Minute Rule for this stellar year 2020, and watch what happens. Worry will vanish, and you will feel empowered once again.
Here's wishing you a worry free and Happy 2020!

Don't waste your life!

Resuming the blog after one week pause, I want to share the key lesson I learnt while going through a rough patch: do not waste your life! Time is so precious and sometimes we don't realize it is limited -the only limited resource we have, even money can be unlimited- and take it for granted. But whenever life is over, it's too late and there is no way back. We have to enjoy our time, become happy now and give love to our family and friends, so that we have a fulfilling life.

We may have our plans and illusions but life may just hit us and then everything is screwed up. I had to learn this the hard way, just take today's lesson into consideration and enjoy every second because we'll never know when the train reaches the last stop.

The Law of Attraction

You may well have heard of the Law of Attraction, a concept that infers that like attracts like. But what does this mean? For me, it means that if you wholeheartedly want something (and you do something about manifesting it) chances are that you'll get it.
But does the concept really work?
As a Life Coach I am hot on forward thinking and working towards what I call 'ideals'. An ideal is simply something positive that you want to see happen - it's a vision, a mission, a purpose, a goal.
A number of years ago I compiled one sheet of paper that contained my overall life purpose, my vision, my goals and a list of projects stemming from those goals. Everything I wrote down came from deep within me, and had been an integral part of me for years.
I have been looking at that sheet of paper almost daily since compiling it without thinking too much about how the things on the sheet were going to manifest.
The reason why I refer to the sheet so often is simply because it makes me feel good. It directs me and stirs me in a positive way. In short, it represents everything I want to manifest in my life.
More recently I attended a meeting with some colleagues and we talked about developing an enterprise. As the discussions went on I realized that much of what we were talking about resembled what was on my sheet.
On returning home I looked at the sheet and laughed. Practically everything I'd written down was covered in the meeting. This happened not because I was pushing my own agenda. It happened naturally because we were all of the same mindset with similar aspirations and wanting to achieve similar life and business goals... like attracting like.
I've now realized that everything I've aspired to may come to fruition by default if our enterprise is successful.
So does this concept of attraction really work? Yes I think so!
Now you could say that nothing I've put out there has yet come to fruition. This is true. However, the meeting showed me that things are already beginning to shift.
If I hadn't produced this sheet I doubt whether the conversation in that meeting would have gone the same way. I may well have been more easily led by the others around the table, because I would have had no real perspective of my own.
By clearly articulating my purpose, vision, goals and projects, and referring to them on a daily basis, my subconscious mind is already recognizing opportunities that will help to make these a reality. That meeting (and the subsequent enterprise idea) is one of those opportunities.
I do believe, however, that there are certain caveats to the concept:
Windows of Opportunity
Once you've clearly and specifically established where you want to go, windows of opportunity begin to open for you. It is for you to grab those opportunities and immediately take the action necessary to achieve your goals. Otherwise, those windows eventually close and the opportunity is lost.
Letting Go
I also believe an important element is that you let go of the outcome. Be OK with achieving your goals and aspirations, and with not achieving them. This is because, in my view, becoming desperate about your achievements pushes them away. Becoming more relaxed about them increases the chances of you achieving them. For me it's also about recognizing that your aspirations may not always manifest in the way you envision them - and being OK with this.
Giving It Time
I also think it's important to give yourself the time you need to manifest your ideal. Specific timeframes focus and galvanise you into action. However if those timeframes are unrealistic they could have the opposite effect. You may feel that if you've not reached your goal within the timeframe you've set yourself that you've somehow failed.
Allowing yourself the time to mature with your vision and grow to become the kind of person who can make it happen may well increase the chances of you succeeding.
So yes, I believe the law of attraction works if:
· You're clear and specific about precisely what you want
· You focus daily on what you want
· You take full advantage of the opportunities that show up and do the work that's necessary
· You let go of the desperation and...
· You give it time
